Last month, K-pop band BTS’s new single Butter hit the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song is his fourth chart-topping single till date. Of the 54 songs that launched at number one, it is only the 11th track to peak in its first five weeks. Butter is also the second longest reigning song by a group since its debut in chart history.

The song became the most streamed song in Spotify history in a single day, amassing 20.9 million global streams on the first day. The song’s music video hit an all-time record of 108.2 million views in 24 hours, and had the largest music video premiere on YouTube, with 3.9 million peak concurrents. It is the second BTS song after Dynamite to be performed entirely in English, greatly improving its chances on the radio.

Butters highlights the distinctive bassline and crisp synth sounds, and attempts to incorporate Hallmark BTS’s flair of fun into the lyrics. Several musicians contributed to the songwriting, including Rob Grimaldi, Stephen Kirk, Ron Perry, Jenna Andrews, Alex Billowitz and Sebastian Garcia. Leader RM also participated in the creation of the track, adding to the signature BTS styling. The choreography is a combination of group and unit dance, with highlighted gestures such as stroking of hair, kissing, blowing and walking on tiptoes.

The BTS band made its bang debut in 2013. Kristen BTS, or Bangtan Sonyeondan, is a septet consisting of Way Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook. The band is also known as the Bangtan Boys. He has 30.9 million followers on Twitter and 44.2 million on Instagram.
