Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi clearly facilitates a fascination for adapting from path-breaking books and creating equally interesting cinema. He has directed some critically acclaimed Bollywood films like Pinjar, Mohalla Assi in the past and has also directed the long-running television program Chanakya. The filmmaker is now busy with his next film Prithviraj starring Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar. When first asked about the film on World Book Day, he revealed how one epic, Prithviraj Raso, is the inspiration behind this much-awaited historical project.
“Prithviraj is primarily based on medieval literature, an epic called ‘Prithviraj Raso’ by the good poet Chand Bardai. Apart from a few editions of Raso, Prithviraj, there are many other literary compositions on his life and times. Also for him Raso There are comments on, ”Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi revealed.
Dwivedi says that for Prithviraj, he had to dive deep into detailed research on the warrior king. He says, “I get involved in extensive research because I enjoy the method of entering the unknown and unexplored world of India and the great heroes of their time. It’s like communicating with these great characters in their time . I’m sure most writers would have experienced this strange phenomenon. ”
He adds, “Apart from the story, I really like doing research on art, archeology, costumes, material culture and available historical data. In other words, I really want to try to explore and excavate archeology within the pages of a literary composition or historical narrative to recreate the age and personality of our time. It gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction as an artist who loves to paint a cinema canvas with lights and a camera. ”
The filmmaker believes that the stories of great warriors like Prithviraj are highly relevant in today’s times where goodness is constantly locked up during battles with evil. He says, “I don’t make characters like Prithviraj relevant to a younger audience.” I choose them as my subjects for cinema because they are relevant to our times and to return each time. They are shining stars within a galaxy of great historical characters that can inspire many generations to return. ”
